Of course it goes without saying that Internet is the most amazing place for everybody because you can find there almost everything what you need. But after searching and finding something interesting every computer user has the same problem- and the name of this problem is Download. Not everybody has a good and speedy Internet connection and downloading is a real nightmare for them because they use Internet browsers for downloading files.

But unfortunately Internet browsers have only basic and not configurable settings for easy and comfortable downloads so you cannot fully accelerate and manage the process of downloading. But the program Internet Download Manager (or simply IDM) has everything for easy and comfortable downloads any Internet files. It is specifically designed to accelerate download process and it makes the process of downloading as easy as drinking water. IDM separates a downloaded file into many minor segments for faster downloading and then put them together after finishing.  I am sure that everybody knows everything about IDM, but let me say a few words about it.

The installation is very fast and easy, just few clicks and you can use the best download manager without any restriction for 30 days. The main interface of the program is very simple but it has all necessary elements for comfortable and easy downloading. After installation IDM creates 5 folders in Users’ documents. All files automatically will be downloaded and placed into one of these folders.

There are 5 different folders: 1.Compressed, 2.Documents, 3.Music, 4.Programs and 5.Video. This is very useful feature of this program because all the files are placed correctly and it is very easy to find them after downloading.

The main window of IDM has all the information about downloaded file: 1.File Name, 2.Size of file, 3.Download Status, 4.Time Left, 5.Transfer Rate, 6.Last Try Date, and 7. Description.

Download Control Buttons

IDM simply has everything for easier managing of file download. Every button has its own function. You can easily manage the whole download process.

1. Add URL : You can add a new download by the help of this button. Simply copy URL link from the Web and paste it into a dialog and file download starts immediately.

2. Resume : This button allows you to resume or start download process.

3. Stop: stops download.

4. Stop all: stops all downloading files.

5. Delete: deletes all selected files.

6. Delete all completed: deletes all completed files.

7. Options: it is divided into nine different tabs: 1.General, 2.File types, 3.Saveto, 4.Downloads, 5.Connection, 6.Proxy, 7.Site logins, 8.Dial Up/VPN, 9.Sounds.

1.General Tab allows you to configure Browser and System integration of the program.

You can launch IDM on startup or remove it from startup, run module for monitoring in IE-based browsers and others. IDM greatly works with all popular web browsers: Safari, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Opera. But you can also add browsers if they are not listed in IDM menu. Simply click “Add browser” button and locate executable file. You can also customize other features, for example, IDM download panels in browsers, IDM menu items.

2. File Types : IDM can download from the Internet many different files, for example exe, avi, zip and many others. But you are able to add or remove unnecessary files types and prevent their download. In this tab you have opportunity to exclude file download from any site. Simply type its URL.

3. Save to : By the help of this tab you can customize saving options of the program. You may change saving preferences and choose any other method.

4. Downloads: This tab allows you to customize file download preferences. You can also use a great and useful feature called “Virus Scanner Program”. Simply click the button “Browse”, find antivirus executable file and add it. Now you are safe online because after downloading your antivirus program automatically will search the file and disinfect it if it contains any malware. I think it is a great feature of this program. You can also configure command line parametrs and duplicate files options.

5. Connection: This tab allows you to customize your Internet connection preferences. You can select preferable Internet connection, number of maximum connections and download limits. Also you may customize server exceptions.

6. Proxy/Socks: This tab allows to configure your proxy and sock configurations. You can use preferred proxy server address and port or not use proxy servers for sertain addresses. Internet download manager supports the following protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, Metalink.

7. Sites Logins: Internet download manager has very useful and important feature called Sites Login. Simply click the button “New” and add URL , your user identification and password. That’s all! Now you can use this feature without restriction and automatically download files from restricted websites.

8. Dial UP/VPN: You can configure your Dial Up and VPN configurations in this tab- set up your connection, user name and password. Also you may configure redial options.

9. Sounds: This tab allows you to add various sound effects to file downloading. You can choose various sounds to your download files. For example add sound to completed or failed files, etc.

The Scheduler button of download control buttons allows you to customize time paramets of downloaded files. It has many useful and important features. You can choose any hour and day for downloading, end download, open file after download, and many others. I think that it is very needful for everybody because you can simply set your preferred time parametrs and do your work. All the rest will be done by IDM perfectly. All downloads start and end at specified time and of course at the highest speed.

Internet download manager has another very useful feature: Site Grabber. Simply choose your site, customize your settings, for example, you can download from the website all pictures or all videos, etc. All the rest IDM will make for you.

I am sure everybody likes this excellent program. And the developers added the special button called “Tell a friend”. You can send an email to your friend and let him know everything about it. I think you have to do that because IDM is really a great program and everybody should know it.

But the greatest feature which I like the most is, of course, so-called “Youtube Grabber”. By the help of this feature you can easily download media files from any video and audio portals. The list of such sites are unlimited in number- My Space, Google Video, and many more. And I want to thank you the IDM developers for giving us such an important and extraordinary feature.

We can have a look after the IDM installation. A new button appears when you start watching a video “Download this Video”. The download starts and will proceed in background even if you stop watching it. Another great feature is you can download multiple videos at the same time.

Another great feature is you can even use context menu in Firefox or IE to download videos (FLV) from the most popular sites (YouTube, MySpaceTV, Google Video etc..). IF you want to save the video just right click over the video and select “Download FLV video content with IDM”

Note: if this menu is missing from your browser, just reinstall the idmmzcc.xpi extension (you can find it in the IDM folder that is “C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager” by default)

You can also add custom extension in the IDM options => File types. In this case videos won’t be played in your browser. The videos will be downloaded by IDM, saved to your local disk, and can be played if you have an FLV player.

Conclusion

Internet download manager is the best download manager. It has very customazible and friendly interface and makes download from the Web as easy as possible. IDM ia available in many languages English, German, Spanish, etc. It works with all modern Internet browsers and is compatible with all vesions of Windows from XP to windows 7.
