Hands-On

Screenpresso by default resides in the system tray and starts with windows. It has a 3-step process–> Capture, Edit and Publish. It provides 3 buttons to do so. The interface is very clean as shown below.

1

A right click on the Screenpresso tray icon (see below), presents you various options for the type of screenshot you want to take. You can capture a region, full screen or use auto scroll. For video recording you can either record a section of the screen or even record your webcam, including the sound of the microphone.

2

Workspace will have all the captures in one place. Once a capture (image/video) is selected in the workspace, the buttons are activated accordingly. You can carry out the following activities in the workspace:

– Create new captures

– Edit existing captures

– Copy an image or a video in the clipboard

– Generate a document (a user guide for instance)

– Drag & drop a file from or to the workspace

– Publish and share a selection of files to built-in sharing services (Dropbox, Evernote, Email, etc…)

3

Following are the default file formats which could be changed from settings option:

– Default image format is PNG.

– Default video format is MP4.

– Default document format is PDF.

Image Editing

Screenpresso provides a built-in vector image editor to add annotations, effects, resize, add blur and more. Double-click on an image in the Screenpresso’s workspace to open the editor or click on the Edit button. Following are the image editing tools available.

Video Editing

The built-in editor of Screenpresso provides following editing functions:

– Resizing

– Export frames

– Changing formats

Document generator

It is possible to generate a PDF, DOCX or HTML document based on images. This is great for quickly generating user manuals, trainings or even a review like the one you are reading now. In fact I wrote this review using Screenpresso’s document generator.

File Publishing

Screenpresso has an in-built feature of publishing/sharing your captures (image/video) to 13 online services as well as ftp and via email. Note that some sharing services are only available in the PRO version.

6

Pros:

1. Simple tool for all your capture (image/video) needs.

2. Easy to use even for a novice.

3. Multilingual with support for 18 languages.

4. Ample options are provided for both image and video captures ranging from format, filename, sizing, effect, watermarks to highlight of mouse cursor, mouse clicks, sound recording from phone, line-in or microphone, video codec, quality and compression.

5. Hot keys settings to enable mouse free operation/control.

6. Facilitates sharing/uploading to 14 online services.

7. Portability to run it directly.

8. A very detailed User Manual.

9. Ease of quickly generating documents using built-in Document generator.

10. Ability to export/import settings & license.

Suggestion:

Need to have a menu to import images to a workspace. Currently it could be done by either by copying image(s) to workspace or a drag-drop to the workspace.

Shortcomings:

1. Requires .NET framework to work. Nothing major here as .NET comes bundled as windows update.

2. It is not possible to unregister a previous computer, although one activation key can be used on up to 5 computers.

3. Requires third-party tool: FFmpeg for video conversion and it needs to be downloaded (only once) separately.

Conclusion:

Screenpresso provides you all the tools you would ever need for any screen capturing activity. It’s easy to use control panel bundled with hot keys makes your life easy for taking and managing captures. The built-in image & video editing features would almost never require you to look for any other tool. Not to forget the easy sharing options using which you can quickly share your pictures and videos with family and friends.
