CD-Rom tray has mind of it's own
Yesterday the CD-rom tray on my son's computer started to open and close on it's own. This happens at different times if he is on the computer or not. I have scanned the system with MBAM,SAS, AVIRA, EMSISOFT and ESET online scanner. I have even booted into safe mode and scanned the computer. RESULTS: Clean. Zero infections found, so that is not the issue. I can still boot from the CD drive and use it as normal, it just keeps opening and closing at random times, except when there is a disc in
I tried trouble shooting it and those results can find no problem. ![]() (This also happens in safe mode) CD-RW drive info: Manufacturer- Hitachi-LG any ideas? and no it's not haunted ![]()

RE: CD-Rom tray has mind of it's own
How old is your CD-Rom? Maybe:
Viruses or scripts (some malware can do that) Dust (try to clean the CD-Rom parts, eject buttons etc..) shooting canned air may help. Unstable PSU, check voltages, etc.. Remove the Cd-Rom and replace with another one to see if that still happens |

RE: CD-Rom tray has mind of it's own
The CD Rom is around 5 years old (I think) I just finished dusting the system, cleaning the fans and a total strip down. Reassembled and problem persisted. Runs much faster though
I think I will just replace the drive...they are cheap......and so am I so I want to try to fix it first before I replace it. I hate the thought of spending $20 or so on a new CD drive Guests cannot see links. Registration or Login is required. |
