How to Setup DOS Box and Not be Scared!
You finally found that 1 game that you played for hours and hours on the internet when you were a kid. You remember how much fun you had and think.."Wow, I am gonna download this sucker and play it." You download it and start to really get excited :flame: because this was the game that you spent every waking moment playing. You go to install it and...............WHAT??? It won't work! You need WHAT??? DOS Box????? :arg:
DOS??? People still use that? NO! NO! You really, really, really wanted to play that game but...So you give up because you don't know DOS and are probably, even scared of DOS. ![]() Well, now, with about 10 minutes of setting up, you can set aside your fears and relive your childhood gaming experience. ![]() Thanks to wizzard_of_ozz2004 for giving me permission to post his instructions on "How to Setup DOS Box". He is a good friend of mine from GOTD. His instructions are so easy, even I set it up. Guests cannot see links. Registration or Login is required. Another site with hints and wizzard_of_ozz2004's link: Guests cannot see links. Registration or Login is required. Here is the best virus free site with Lots of DOS games: Guests cannot see links. Registration or Login is required. It is all abandonware. "Wikipedia: "Abandonware is computer software which is no longer being sold or supported by its copyright holder. Alternately, the term is also used for software which is still available, but on which further support and development has been deliberately discontinued." Since the software is no longer sold or supported, the copyright holders are not directly harmed in any way. This is why abandonware sites are, for the most part, ignored by the law. The distribution of copyrighted software however is, and will always be, illegal!" This is my fav time waster, a pinball game. It has 4 different tables and loads of fun. Guests cannot see links. Registration or Login is required. ![]() There are more and I will post them later..But this is the best site! Find a game...then read the instructions and....Install DOS Box and... HAPPY GAMING! ![]() Thanks again, wizzard_of_ozz2004! |

RE: How to Setup DOS Box and Not be Scared!
Cools post. I realy liked the "Related" posts on the right of the article. :-)
Don't forgot a bout MAME. MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It's free and then search for ROMS. (ROMS are games) Here is one of many free ROM sites: Guests cannot see links. Registration or Login is required. (They are both legal but nobody likes to post ROMS and MAME on the same site.) Majorgeeks.com has a couple of versions of MAME. I trust majorgeeks 10 x more than cnet or any other download site. You can play any old school arcade or home console game with MAME and ROMS. |

Thanks, nomad. I have looked at MAME but it took me over a year to get up the nerve to install DOS Box. Love MajorGeeks!
