| June 14, 2012

In our everyday use we all come across various tasks such as unzipping archives, editing archives, creating image files, burning image files to CD/DVD/Blu-ray, and making images of CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs. It is hard to find a single solution for all our needs.

WinArchiver is a multi-purpose and powerful utility which could work with archives, image files, and even mount the images to a virtual drive without extraction.

Below are the Main Features from the developer site:

1. Open and extract zip, rar, 7z, and other archive files. WinArchiver can unzip all popular archives.

2. Create zip, 7z, iso, and mzp files from hard disk files.

3. Edit existing archive files.

4. Mount zip, rar, and other files to virtual drives without extraction. You can use WinArchiver as a professional virtual drive software.

5. Burn image files to CD, DVD, and Blu-ray discs.

6. Make disc image files from CD, DVD, and Blu-ray discs.

7. Support unicode file names.

8. Support multivolume, encryption, and archive comments.

9. Support Windows Explorer shell integration.

10. Support both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.

WinArchiver is shareware software and you get 30 days to evaluate it.

The installer is just ~2.7Mb and it takes ~5Mb of disk space upon installation. During installation you could select to associate it with any of the 56 different types of archive types, and also integrate with Windows Explorer shell.

It supports 11 languages making it Multi-lingual software.

The interface as seen below is very clean and simple. All major actions are provided on the interface such as New, Open, Add, Extract, Encrypt, Burn, Copy and Mount.

Using the Add button/option you could create a new archive specifying the compression, password protection, split volume size, and comments. See below.

The newly created Archive files could be saved as .zip, .7z, .iso, .xdi and .mzp.

You can also edit already existing archive files such as removing files within, adding comments or adding password.

The Burn & Copy options allow you to burn a disc and copy existing discs to your hard disk in one of the formats: ISO/Bin-CUE/XDI.

The mount options directly helps viewing/accessing the image files without having the need to burn them to an appropriate disc. Please note that to use mount option you would have to install the freely provided WinArchiver Virtual Drive available from link below:

Another very useful feature is conversion of image files from one format to another. It supports following conversions:

DMG file to ISO format

NRG, BIN file and other disc image file to iso format

ISO file to XDI file – it is rather called as compression because the resulting XDI file has a high compression ratio. The reverse is also possible.

They also have lots of useful tutorials which could be access from the link below:

WinArchiver is a must utility to aid in your daily tasks, as not only it is feature packed, but also light-weight and easy to use.

It saves your time having it handle all possible archives and image files. Not to forget about the disc burning and copying options.
