Sony Mobile promised a few days ago that it would reveal its plans for Android 4.3 and 4.4 updates, but did not offer additional details as to when exactly the information would be unveiled.

True to its promise, the Japanese handset maker announced today which devices will receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates and which ones are eligible for Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades.

First of all, it appears that there won’t be any updates delivered this month for any of Sony’s smartphones. The company confirmed it will start rolling out the first Android updates beginning next month.

So, Android fans who own the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 will be pleased to know Sony confirmed it will start rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in December.

There has been much talk about Sony not delivering the promised Android 4.3 update for Xperia Z1 on time, so rumors suggested the company might skip it and upgrade the smartphone straight to 4.4 KitKat. Thankfully, this is not the case, though Xperia Z1 owners will still have to wait at least one more month.

Secondly, Sony Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V will be upgraded to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as well, starting next month.

Further on, Sony confirmed plans to offer the Android 4.4 KitKat update for several of its high-end smartphones. The following devices are eligible for the upgrade: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1.

According to Sony, these are the “first raft of Xperia products” that will receive the Android 4.4 KitKar update, so it’s unclear if there will a second batch of Xperia phones that will get the upgrade as well.

Last but not least, it is worth mentioning, both 4.3 Jelly Bean and 4.4 KitKat updates will be rolled out in stages, so timings and availability will vary by market and carrier. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
