How to use Google Image Swirl to organize image search results based on their visual and semantic similarities

| November 18, 2009

This nice tool from Google, is very useful to organize your search results based on visual and semantic similarities. Using Google Image Swirl you can resolve some ambiguous search query.

Images are grouped into stacks of similar images. This stack swirls into action showing another set of organized thumbnails. It requires JavaScript to be enabled a a Flash plugin to be installed in order to work correctly. Tested on Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera.

At this time, the algorithm is not perfect and mistakes could happen. Actually it works  for more than 200.000 queries and Google thinks to add more in the future.

The project is great, and all of us will expect more improvements from Image Swirl.

Stay tuned.
