How to: use your computer as video surveillance system with Vitamin D
Vitamin D Video detects people and moving objects in video streams for security and monitoring purposes.
It runs on a PC or Mac, and uses off-the-shelf USB webcams or network (IP) cameras. For the first time, professional performance with real-time alerts is available to everyone.
If you are interested in general home monitoring but don’t know where to start, here are some examples of what you can do:
- Get an alert when someone comes to your front door, whether it’s the delivery person or a pesky solicitor.
- Act as a neighborhood watch monitor of the street while people are away at work.
- Send yourself a notification when your child comes home from school, or leaves a designated play area.
- Monitor activity at your vacation home or a remote area of your property.
- Set up a camera to see if there are kids in your pool, or find out who (or what) is knocking over the trash.
- Point it in the backyard or a room where your pet is supposed to be (or not)!
It’s still in beta version, but very powerful to use.
